Dear host family,
Thank you for your interest in me. My name is Camila and I am 20 years old. I live with my family in Guarujá, coast of the state of São Paulo, Brazil and I’m a dance teacher.
Guarujá is a great place to live because it has many schools, squares, trees, theater, museums and beautiful beaches.
I live with my parents. My older sister, my nephew and my grandmother.
My father Sérgio is 50 years old and he is a Port official. He is hardworking, very funny, energetic, loves sports, but also is responsible and serious when needed. Everyone say that I’m a lot like him.
My mother Eliana is 47 years old and she is a housewife. She is serious, responsible, and independent, usually is fun in some situations and is an optimistic person.
My older sister Fabiana is 26 years old and she is a saleswoman. She is a hardworking person, funny and she is the mother of the cutest child I know, my nephew Gabriel, who is 4 years old and is in kindergarten. He is autistic, but he has mild symptoms. Not a problem for me that he’s autistic. He only has difficult in speaking and communicating with other people. He speaks, but not very well. Sometimes he gets nervous and throws toys or himself on the floor, cries and screams, but attention and affection make him calm down again.
Nevertheless he is a lovely boy, joyful, amorous and very funny. He loves singing music about numbers, he has learned to count to 10 and he sings all the time. To see him counting with his fingers and dance is very, very cute and I laugh a lot with him.
My grandmother Erivalda is 68 years old. She lives with us because she had a stroke and I help my mother to take care of her.
We have a nice relationship and value each other. I say with absolutely sure that we are a happy family and blessed for God. My parents always taught me to be honest person, worth my family and other people, to value the small things in life and the importance of study. Everything that I am today, I thank them.
I can say that part of my soul is still like a child, I know the value that a child has, in their funny strange questions but usually very intelligent, to see their smiles and wonderful way to be naive. In my opinion, children need people that are sensible to understand their moments of sorrows and joys. I think children should never been underestimated, as they need to be treated with respect and taken seriously. I enjoy spending time with them, entertaining them and helping with their age problems and curiosity.
I want to be an au pair because I know how to take care of children. I believe that this program will be very important for my career like a dance teacher,it will help me to be fluent in the English language and also important because I will know a new culture and new situations in my life. I know that this is a work program and I’m ready for it. I love working and I can provide for my host family flexible of schedule, responsibility and independence.
Currently, I am a Ballet teacher and I have groups of children from 2 - 6 years old, a group of teenagers and also teach adults. But my favorite group is from 2 - 6 years old, because they are very energetic, exciting and creative, like I am. It's a difficult experience, because they are girls in different ages and it's very hard to find something that matters to all of them at the same time. So, I decided to help each one individually and at the fun moments, I helped all of them at the same time. I always try to change the games to entertain.
That is an incredible experience and we became good friends. My activities with them are everything you can imagine. To get their attention, I have to use all my creativity to play different games and teach and I also learn a lot from them.
I had a group of children (9 – 12 years old) in the church and I taught them for a year. Now, I have a group of teenagers (12 – 15 years old). This is a voluntary work and I teach a free style dance. I love all the moments with them. They became my friends, and besides teaching dance, we have a moment that I talk to them about the bible and the importance in having a good character. We also did a “Pajamas night”. The girls came to my house for a sleepover. We talked about a lot of things and we played together, they loved it and so did I.
My childcare experiences, besides to my students, involves the children of my friend Ilza. Thiago (when he was three years old) and Rafael (since he was a newborn). I slept in their house several times and when she and her husband were traveling, they often took me to help them with the children.
My tasks were, making bottles, spoon feeding, burping, changing diapers, cooking, bathing and sometimes putting children to bed. I played a lot especially with Thiago. He was very active and I had to do activities with him all the time. We danced in the room, painted designs, did arts and crafts, read stories, we walked in the neighborhood, played hide and seek and played with clay.
Now, I take care of my nephew Gabriel, who is four years old. I took care of him since he was a newborn. I do with Gabriel the same things that I did with Thiago and Rafael. As I said at the beginning of the letter, he has autism, and even with 4 years old, he still uses bottle, wears diapers and we are doing potty training with him. I always put him to bed, make meals, bottle preparations, to organize the toys and I often drive him to school.
My activities with him depends on the weather. When’s raining I do indoor activities. Gabriel loves to sing; I take this to encourage him to talk. I put childhood songs for us to dance and sing together, it’s very fun and he loves it. We paint, play with lego; I read books showing him the pictures, he loves to see the images.
When it’s sunny, I do outdoor activities. I watch him in the pool, take him to ride his bicycle on the neighborhood, play soccer in the backyard, or take him to the beach to play and swim.
Besides, I did a volunteer job in a school for babies and toddlers. It was a good experience to me. My duties were: changing diapers, feeding, burping, organize toys, bathing and nap. I learned a lot there. I loved to stay with the babies, play with building toys, to give affection and attention. It was great to see their happy faces.
I consider myself a responsible person; I fit easily to new places and people, I’m flexible, lovely, calm, honest, energetic and very fun who loves children. I love adventures and I know how to value everything that I have, I love to teach, and make new friends. I’m an optimistic person and I try to see the positive side of every situation. I am very kind and I like to treat people with respect and consideration.
In my free time, I listen music, ride bicycle, I meet my friends go on a picnic or go for a walk and I also go to the gym. In summer time I love to go to the beach. I especially love to read. Some books mean a lot to me and I often read the same book more than once.
I like traveling, to know new places and I love art in general, I visit historical monuments and I go to the theater and dance performances every year.
This is just a little about me. I think words are not enough to describe something such complex as a person. I tried in a few words to describe opinions and interests, but words are not enough sometimes, what matters is person’s essence.
Thanks for your time and for reading my letter. I look forward to hearing from you.
Espero ter ajudado..
